Day 1:fasting vs famine

I was born Muslim, read the Koran until the age of 13 years old. Have not practice my Muslim faith thoroughly in recent years for many reasons. I understand what being a Muslim entail to while living in the west. Every year, whilst being the West with some practical limitations I try to fast when Ramadan arrive. This year I wanted to fast in support to millions in the Horn of Africa especially in Somalia that are starving and dying of famine for no justifiable reasons.
My Fast will be easier indeed than the Somalian mum who is seating right now in the dry and sandy Dadaab- She will be fasting despite knowing that tonight she may not eat, drink or sleep well. I have a choice to eat what I want tonight, drink plenty of water, make myself a lovely meal because, -because- I can, she can't instead she will be carefully saving her ration of food given to her by the aid agencies whom managed to reach out to her, she might cook for her children and share it with her fellow Somalians. I cannot even imagine the difficulties this woman is going through right now when I about to finish this blog, but one thing I can say is she is beautiful, dignified, and fighting for her survival in a very tumultuous situation.

As Mohandas Gandhi -"To deprive a man of his natural liberty and to deny to him the ordinary amenities of life is worse then starving the body; it is starvation of the soul, the dweller in the body".

Until tomorrow..
